December 2009
We had planned a four-day stay in Machu Picchu/Aguas Calientes for our trip to Perú earlier this year. Due to a "farmers strike," however, we had to cut our stay short by a day. The Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel was pre-paid, so we arranged for Vidal to use the refund certificate for a project to benefit the kids.
We were very pleased to hear recently that part of our small gift was used to set up a chocotada (a hot chocolate stand) where Vidal and Marcos served hot beverages and handed out small Christmas presents to people (primarily kids) who come down from the mountain villages into the city for the holidays. A little something to add to the holiday cheer.
The rest of the money has been used to purchase school supplies that Vidal has been handing out to kids in the villages.
Our thanks to Vidal for his efforts on our behalf!
